Foods to avoid while wearing braces:

  • Chips, nuts, bagels and other hard breads can break brackets, bend archwires, and loosen bands.
  • Bubblegum, hard candy, caramel and popcorn (gets stuck in braces) should also be avoided.
  • Never chew on ice – it will destroy your braces!

  • Apples, carrots, celery and corn-on-the-cob are fine if they are chopped into bite size pieces.
  • Chewing on pens and pencils can also cause severe damage to your braces.
  • Be careful with other foods like chicken & ribs because of the hard bones found in them.
